Uganda’s coffee exports increased slightly in March 2026 compared to the same period last year, supported by improved harvest conditions.
According to Reuters, the country exported 671,152 60-kg bags of coffee during the month, marking a 2.9% year-on-year increase driven by a better crop.
Coffee remains one of Uganda’s top foreign exchange earners, and the increase in export volumes reflects stronger production across key growing regions.

In the 12 months to March 2026, Uganda earned about $2.4 billion from coffee exports, up from $1.8 billion in the previous period, according to official data cited in the report.
What This Means For Africa
Higher export volumes show Africa’s agricultural sector can grow with improved production.
This strengthens the role of commodities like coffee in foreign exchange earnings.
However, reliance on raw exports still limits value capture across the continent.
Expanding local processing will be key to long-term economic gains.
