Algiers Targets Export Growth With National Data Platform

Algeria plans to create a national digital system to record all goods and services produced in the country. The goal is to better organize exports and make Algerian products easier to sell in global markets.

According to Tech Africa, the idea was discussed at a meeting on Tuesday, March 17 in Algiers, led by Kamel Rezig  in his capacity as Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion.

The system will be a central database that is always updated. It will help the government promote local products abroad and understand what the country can produce.

Right now, information is spread across different government offices, which makes coordination difficult. This new system will bring everything together and improve how decisions are made.

This plan is part of Algeria’s effort to grow its economy outside oil and gas. At the moment, hydrocarbons bring in about 90% of export income. Because of this, the government wants to support other industries and increase non-oil exports.

The registry will also help different sectors know what goods and services they need. This should improve teamwork across government policies and industrial plans.

Officials believe the platform will help create a more focused export strategy and make local businesses more competitive globally. In the long run, it should help Algeria sell more products internationally and depend less on energy exports.
