Burna Boy’s absence on ‘WGFT’ remix sparks mixed reactions

Reactions have continued to trail the release of the remix of Gunna’s hit single ‘WGFT, following the noticeable exclusion of Burna Boy, who appeared on the original version of the song.

On Friday, January 16, Gunna officially released the remix of his hit single WGFT, this time featuring Chris Brown. The move surprised many fans, as Burna Boy, who featured on the original version, was absent from the remix.

The original WGFT, taken from Gunna’s 2025 album The Last Wun, featured Burna Boy and enjoyed massive success. The remix, however, replaces Burna Boy’s verse with Chris Brown’s catchy RnB infused contribution.

From the opening of the remix, Chris Brown’s vocals set the tone with a smooth R&B feel, before Gunna’s familiar verse on the song comes in. While many fans praised the vibe of the remix and Chris Brown’s hook, others admitted they missed Burna Boy’s presence and questioned the decision to switch collaborators.

Following the release, social media quickly lit up with mixed reactions. Some listeners argued that Burna Boy was not needed on the original song, others felt Chris Brown was a better fit, while some insisted Burna Boy’s exclusion from the remix was unfair.

One user even resurfaced an old tweet from December last year, questioning Burna Boy’s inclusion on the original track. The tweet read: This wgft song didn’t need burna. Chris brown would have been perfect.

Another reaction stated: Gunna’s verse on WGFT blew up so much that Burna Boy was never really needed on the track, and that’s why he wasn’t to the remix.”

Not everyone supported the idea of a remix at all. One user wrote: Big ups to Chris brown, but the remix ain’t it. Gunna Should have left the original with Burna.”

Others were more critical of the decision to remove Burna Boy entirely. A fan questioned the move, saying: Why Gunna took Burna Boy’s verse away though?? That foul.

Another listener took a different angle, arguing that Burna Boy’s exclusion was not a big issue. According to the user: All of una dey shout them comot burna, them nor comot burna, this na remix, u feature person for the original, u wan do remix u go come feature the person again inside the remix?? when e be say the featured act was not a chorus.”

Some fans went further to claim that the remix was actually better than the original. One user said: But this remix tap sha oo I just dey play am single 8 and it’s 10:30 now still on repeat I love the remix than the original.”

However, not all reactions were positive. One fan accused Gunna of risking the song’s success with the remix, stating: Gunna is about to Ruin Wgft with that Chris Brown Remix.

Another blunt reaction read: Let be honest burna almost spoiled the song, while another added: I was gonna ask why breezy wasn’t in the original track because this is really his specialty.”
