Bilateral trade between Togo and China has surged in 2025, with total exchanges reaching $4 billion in the first nine months, up 56.4% from the same period in 2024, according to data presented by China’s ambassador to Lomé, Wang Min, on December 5, and reported by Ecofin Agency.
This growth places China among Togo’s most dynamic commercial partners.
Togolese exports to China recorded the sharpest rise, increasing fivefold, or roughly 400%, reflecting China’s growing demand and the zero-tariff regime applied since 2024 to 100% of eligible African products under the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), from which Togo fully benefits.

The surge coincides with efforts to diversify Togolese export sectors, including agriculture, raw materials, and processed goods, with agro-industry presenting new opportunities.
Market access for Togolese soybeans is “entered its countdown,” the ambassador said, indicating the final technical steps are underway.
For Togo, this development could expand its reach beyond Europe into one of the world’s largest markets, while for China, it strengthens the comprehensive strategic partnership established with Lomé in 2024.
