South African companies to explore business opportunities at CIIE

A total of 32 South African companies will present their products and services at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the country’s Department of Trade, Industry and Competition announced in a statement on Monday, Sources reported.

The event, scheduled for November 5 to 10 in Shanghai, is an annual trade fair that allows foreign businesses to display their offerings and connect with Chinese importers and buyers, the statement said.

South African Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau described the expo as an international platform that enables companies from around the world to showcase their products to Chinese consumers and potential buyers.

“Our participation at the CIIE is linked to our strategic export-related objective of developing new and existing South African exporters’ capabilities to grow exports globally by providing appropriate information, financial support for participation, and practical assistance to sustain organic growth in traditional markets and to penetrate new high-growth markets,” Tau said.

He added that results from previous expos showed it was an excellent opportunity to promote South African goods and services to new customers.

China has been South Africa’s largest trading partner for 16 straight years, while South Africa has remained China’s biggest trading partner in Africa for 15 consecutive years.

According to China’s customs data, bilateral trade between the two countries reached 52.46 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, accounting for nearly 20 percent of total China-Africa trade.
