Award-winning Ghanaian artist Wendy Shay has pledged to sponsor the full education of a young fan, Tracy Shay, after a viral video of the pre-teen dancing to her hit single “Too Late” captured hearts across the country and beyond.
The video, filmed during the All Ashaiman Schools Festival at Ridona JHS on April 3rd, showed Tracy dancing with confidence and joy.
While the performance sparked many positive reactions online, it also attracted some hurtful comments.
Upon seeing the video, Wendy Shay felt deeply moved and decided to take action.
“It’s heartbreaking to see a talented, confident child abused,” said Wendy Shay.
“I was touched and wanted to show appreciation to little Tracy. I wanted to encourage her to stay awesome and outgoing without any fear or limits. I also wanted to sponsor her education so she can become the best version of herself.”
Wendy further expressed this as she paid the young fan a surprise visit.
During the surprise visit to Ridona JHS, Wendy Shay met with Tracy, offering her warm hugs, thoughtful gifts, and the life-changing promise of educational sponsorship from Class 5 through university.
The visit also included donations to the school, such as custom-branded exercise books, Peeva beverages, a 43-inch Hisense TV, and an undisclosed cash gift to support Tracy’s immediate needs.
This act of generosity comes at a time when many are reflecting on the values of kindness and compassion during the Easter season.
Wendy Shay’s gesture has since been widely celebrated, reinforcing her commitment to using her platform to uplift and empower young people.
Since the video’s release, “Too Late” has gained further momentum internationally, becoming one of the most Shazamed songs in countries including the US, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, and others.
