Victory Wilson: A Visionary Changing the Media Landscape, One Story at a Time

Victory Wilson, a name that is a force of nature in the world of broadcasting, communications, and media.

A multi-award-winning journalist with over 20,000 hours of live television and radio broadcasting experience, Victory has carved a path that exemplifies perseverance, innovation, and a deep passion for making a difference.

With accolades like the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria’s TV Presenter of the Year and recognition as one of the Top 100 Inspirational Nigerian Women, her influence spans across various platforms.

From hosting prestigious events globally to writing her book “Mastering the Art of Presentation”, Victory is on a mission to inspire, educate, and bring healing through her work.

Her journey, driven by a purpose to make a meaningful impact, is one of transformation and empowerment.

In this candid conversation, Victory opens up about her career, the challenges she has faced, the values that keep her grounded, and the exciting projects she is passionate about.

Her words reflect the commitment she has to using the media as a tool for positive change and her relentless pursuit of growth.

CA: What sparked your passion for your industry, and how has that passion evolved over time? What drives you to continue innovating and pushing boundaries?

Victory: My ultimate life goal is to make a meaningful impact in every way I can. My passion for my industry grew when I realized the positive influence my TV shows have on people’s lives.

From Streetwise to the inspiring Amazing Kids Show, to writing my book, Mastering the Art of Presentation, to The Victory Wilson Show, and hosting both corporate and social events with excellence — it’s the smiles on people’s faces, the children I’ve helped find their platform to shine, the voice I’ve given to the vulnerable, and the guidance my shows have provided that brings me fulfillment.

These moments of connection fuel my drive, and I am always seeking new ways to create solutions, make a difference, and leave the world a little better than I found it. This purpose is what keeps me going every day.

CA: Can you share a pivotal moment or challenge that tested your resolve? How did you overcome it, and what did you learn from the experience?

Victory: My professional journey as a TV presenter has been one of the most defining experiences of my life. It wasn’t easy at first.

I wasn’t exactly welcomed with open arms, and for a long time, I felt unsure, frustrated, and even thought about quitting after a year.

There were days when I doubted my path, but despite the challenges, I kept giving my best to each show. I didn’t let my personal struggles impact my performance.

Then, just when I had resolved to leave, something extraordinary happened. I won my first award for Streetwise Show, a show that was initially just a filler.

Thanks to overwhelming positive feedback, it was extended to a full hour, and my team and I were offered opportunities to take the show beyond Lagos. The turnaround in just one year was incredible.

That moment taught me a powerful lesson: with faith, hard work, and perseverance, anything is possible. It was then that I truly believed in myself and the grace of God.

I learned to never let challenges affect my delivery and to always trust that the universe rewards hard work. No effort is ever wasted, and every setback is a step toward something greater.

CA: What motivates you to continue driving change, and how do you measure success?

Victory: Success, to me, means reaching a point where I can give back in every possible way—physically, emotionally, and financially. I’m still a work in progress, and I haven’t arrived yet.

That constant drive to do more, be more, and impact others in meaningful ways is what keeps me motivated and focused every day. It keeps me on my toes.

CA: How do you believe your African heritage and upbringing have influenced your perspective and approach to your work? Are there any cultural values or traditions that you incorporate into your professional life?

Victory: We call it ‘home training’! (Smile) The values instilled in me from an early age have shaped me in profound ways.

Success has its principles, and while they may differ for everyone, my heritage has guided me to the principles that work for me. I hold on to GOD, integrity, hard work, chastity, and discipline—values my parents taught me that I’ve woven into my professional life.

Though the path hasn’t been easy, as it’s the more challenging route, it’s been incredibly rewarding. Through it all, God’s grace has carried me.

He has been endlessly good to me, and His grace has been the driving force behind my career and success. With God, the best is yet to come.

CA: What advice would you give to young Africans just starting out on their own journeys? What are some common challenges they may face, and how can they overcome them?

Victory: Dear young African, know yourself! Take time to truly understand who you are and what works for you. Don’t follow the crowd.

Stay focused and hold tightly to your dreams, no matter the challenges.

Be comfortable standing alone, and let go of the need for external validation, you don’t need it. Dare to be different and embrace your authentic self. Everyone else is taken, and the worst thing you can do is become a copy of someone else.

Don’t chase fame. Instead, focus on building your integrity. Fame, honor, and recognition are earned, sometimes given but not chased. When you stay true to your purpose and do the work, those things will come naturally.

You will face trials, frustrations, and moments of doubt, but hold firm to God. Trust Him completely, recklessly even, because while man may fail you, God will never fail you.

CA: Can you tell us about some exciting projects or initiatives you’re working on? How do you see them impacting the community, and what role do you hope they’ll play in driving positive change?

Victory: I am always excited whenever I get to talk about my ‘big baby,’ The Victory Wilson Show—a vision brought to life to help people achieve balanced and healthier lives. As a psychologist, this is my gift to humanity.

The Victory Wilson Show is dedicated to helping individuals heal from traumatic experiences and navigate life’s challenges by offering professional therapeutic solutions through certified therapists, counselors, and psychiatrists.

This show was created to bridge the gap in access to therapy and bring healing closer to those who need it.

Many people face life’s difficulties and carry trauma they often feel unable to talk about.

We believe that the more healed and whole people we have, the better our world becomes.

CA: Looking back, what partnerships or collaborations have been instrumental in your journey? How have they helped shape your approach to your work?

Victory: I’ll describe my partnership with Silverbird TV and Silverbird Communications as more than just a working relationship—it feels like destiny. This incredible company has played a pivotal role in shaping my career journey.

From giving me my first employment opportunity in the media industry, despite having no prior professional experience, to nurturing my growth at every stage, Silverbird has been instrumental in my story.

They’ve given me the honor of hosting Africa’s biggest pageants, including Miss Universe Nigeria and the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN), not once but three consecutive times.
I couldn’t have asked for better partners.

Their support and belief in me have not only shaped my career but also set me apart in my field. For all these opportunities and experiences, I remain deeply grateful.

CA: How do you see African entrepreneurs competing or collaborating on a global stage? What opportunities or challenges do you think they’ll face, and how can they prepare?

Victory: Africa is taking the world by storm, showcasing its unparalleled innovation and talent across every field. Blessed with some of the most creative and dynamic minds, the continent is brimming with opportunities waiting to be seized.

It’s inspiring to witness Africans breaking barriers, redefining boundaries, and making a global impact. From entertainment and technology to politics and beyond, Africans are thriving on the world stage, earning well-deserved recognition.

The world is becoming more receptive and appreciative of Africa’s brilliance, and this is just the beginning. The future holds even greater possibilities, and I have no doubt that Africa’s influence will only continue to grow.

CA: What’s one lesson you’ve learned from failure, and how has it shaped your approach to entrepreneurship and innovation?

Victory: I’ll put it simply: failure is my proof that I’ve worked, and it’s also the foundation of my success – which is still a work in progress. When I launched the first Victory Wilson Show, I failed.

We couldn’t even shoot another episode after the first. I got so many things wrong because I allowed myself to be swayed away from my original vision.

I was told my dream was too big, that I wasn’t ready for it, and that I should settle for something smaller at the moment. So, I compromised, and I failed.

But that failure became my greatest teacher. It showed me how to align my actions with my vision and passions. It forced me to rethink, rework, and innovate.

The mistakes I made then shaped the new Victory Wilson Show, helping me create something better, more refined, and truly reflective of my dream.

Failure, to me, is a necessary part of the journey. If you’ve never failed, you’ve probably never tried hard enough. So, I don’t fear failure; I only fear the regret of never trying.

Victory Wilson’s journey reflects a rich blend of resilience, purpose, and transformation.

She has proven that her story is far beyond the accolades and achievements, it’s also about using her platform to bring light, healing, and empowerment to others.

With every new endeavor, she continues to redefine what success means and, in doing so, is lighting the way for others to follow.
