The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14, 2026, providing taxpayers an additional two weeks beyond the original March 31 cutoff.
The extension was announced in a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, quoting Executive Chairman Ayodele Subair, who said the move is intended to allow individuals more time to complete and submit accurate tax returns.

Subair emphasized that the statutory deadline for filing remains March 31 each year, but the extension is designed to ease compliance and reduce errors in submissions.
He stressed that taxpayers should treat filing obligations as a routine responsibility rather than a last-minute exercise.
The agency reiterated that all filings must be done exclusively through its electronic platform, as manual submissions have been fully phased out.

Taxpayers are required to use the LIRS eTax portal, which is accessible кругл-the-clock, and ensure their Tax Identification Numbers are correctly entered.
The filing requirement applies to all taxable individuals in Lagos, including employees under the Pay-As-You-Earn system, as well as self-employed persons, business owners, and professionals. LIRS maintained that failure to comply after the new April 14 deadline may still attract penalties under existing tax laws.
