Ethio Telecom has unveiled an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Addis Ababa, bolstering Ethiopia’s developing EV infrastructure.
The cutting-edge facility can charge up to 32 vehicles simultaneously, utilizing three different charging methods and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize charging speed and power delivery.
The AI-powered chargers analyze each vehicle’s battery status and adjust power delivery accordingly, ensuring faster and more efficient charging while prolonging battery life.
The system also customizes power output based on each vehicle’s needs, reducing energy waste and enhancing grid stability.
The charging station operates 24/7 and is fully integrated with Ethio Telecom’s telebirr SuperApp, allowing for seamless, cashless transactions. This integration aligns with Ethiopia’s push towards digital financial services and fintech-driven economic growth.
Ethio Telecom’s investment in EV infrastructure demonstrates Ethiopia’s commitment to sustainable development. By adopting EVs, the country aims to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality.
The success of this project could serve as a blueprint for other African nations looking to modernize their transportation and financial systems sustainably.
