Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has opened up on a past incident in Atlanta where a nightclub owner openly disrespected Nigerian music, and how he later responded after rising to global fame.
Speaking during a livestream, the singer recounted that the incident occurred early in his career when a DJ was playing African music in a club before the owner abruptly intervened and ordered it to be stopped.
Davido stated that the club owner had a pattern of hostility towards Nigerians and even denied him entry into the same venue during his early days in the United States.
The experience, according to him, remained significant and shaped how he reacted years later when his status in the music industry had grown.
He explained that the same club owner eventually approached him for a booking, but instead of accepting under normal terms, he imposed a significantly higher performance fee as a form of payback for the earlier disrespect.
Beyond financial retaliation, Davido revealed that he mobilised his fanbase—popularly known as “30BG”—to target the club owner’s online presence, leading to intense backlash that reportedly forced changes in the club’s attitude.
The situation reportedly shifted quickly, as the club later gave him a high-profile reception, including a red-carpet welcome during a subsequent visit.
