Charles Oraegbu, a Senior Software Architect and Technical Lead, has been recognized with the Crest Africa Engineering Leadership Award for his contributions to engineering innovation, leadership, and scalable technology development across multiple countries.
The recognition highlights his growing influence across Nigeria, Kenya, South Korea, and India, where he has led high-impact projects and built systems that support modern digital infrastructure.
The award was presented as part of Crest Africa’s ongoing initiative to spotlight African professionals shaping the future of technology through measurable impact and cross-border expertise.
Reflecting on the recognition, Charles stated, “This award represents more than a personal milestone. It is a reflection of the work we are doing to build systems that solve real problems across different markets and communities.”
With over five years of experience, he has built a strong reputation for designing scalable systems, distributed financial platforms, and AI-driven workflows while leading engineering teams through complex technical challenges.
As Technical Lead and Architect at Wowzi in Nairobi, Kenya, he led the development of a creator-focused financial platform featuring wallet management, card systems, and cross-border payouts. He also designed cloud infrastructure and implemented a microservice serverless template aligned with global best practices.
One of his most notable contributions was the development of an in-house digital contract signing feature that reduced operational costs by 85 percent. Speaking on his leadership approach, he said, “For me, leadership in engineering is about creating systems that scale efficiently while empowering teams to think critically and build with purpose.”
Earlier in his career at Kobo360 in Lagos, Nigeria, Charles maintained high uptime for data pipelines and introduced full automation of reporting systems, enabling both clients and internal stakeholders to access timely and actionable insights. He also mentored junior data engineers, strengthening team performance through structured best practices and improved efficiency.
His international experience includes roles at Konstellation in Seoul, South Korea, and Weekendlabs LLP in Bangalore, India, where he contributed to microservice development, cloud migration, and web applications that improved workflows and increased measurable outcomes such as website leads and task success rates.
As a remote consultant, he has also collaborated with global teams to deliver robust web applications and integrated technology solutions across industries.
Emphasizing the importance of continuous growth, Charles added, “The future of engineering lies in collaboration, adaptability, and a constant commitment to learning. That is what drives meaningful innovation.”
He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Lagos and a National Diploma from Yaba College of Technology, alongside certifications including ParadigmHQ Certified Django Developer and Computational Thinking for Problem Solving from Coursera.
This recognition by Crest Africa positions Charles Oraegbu among a new generation of African engineering leaders whose work is shaping the continent’s role in the global technology ecosystem.
