The youth wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), escalating tensions over the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.
The ultimatum, announced on Monday in Abuja by ADC National Youth Leader Balarabe Rufa’i, demands that INEC immediately restore what the group described as the party’s “legitimate leadership” led by David Mark.

The group warned that failure to comply within 72 hours would trigger nationwide protests and coordinated civic actions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
At the center of the crisis is INEC’s recent decision to remove key ADC figures, including Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from its official records following a court directive to maintain the status quo pending final judgment.
ADC youths argue that INEC initially recognised the leadership that emerged from the party’s July 2025 National Executive Committee meeting but later reversed its position without a definitive court ruling.
The group accused the electoral body of overstepping its constitutional role, insisting that interpreting court orders is the exclusive responsibility of the judiciary, not INEC.

In addition to demanding reinstatement of the leadership, the youths also called for the resignation or removal of the INEC Chairman, alleging that the commission’s actions undermine democratic processes and institutional neutrality.
