In a scathing assessment of Nigeria’s current legislative leadership, activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has declared that Senate President Godswill Akpabio lacks the moral character required to steer the country toward progress.
Speaking during a recent interview with News Central, Adeyanju expressed deep frustration with the state of the 10th National Assembly, describing the institution under its current leadership as a haven for “political bandits” who prioritize self-interest over the common good.
Adeyanju’s remarks were sparked by the police’s recent use of force against peaceful protesters at the National Assembly.

He noted a disturbing trend where pro-government groups are granted state protection while those voicing dissent are met with tear gas and intimidation.
The activist explained that his current absence from the streets is not due to a lack of conviction, but rather a lack of faith in the recipient of those protests.
He asserted that he cannot in good conscience demand the “right thing” from a leader he believes is fundamentally incapable of delivering it.
Beyond the treatment of protesters, Adeyanju raised alarms over the legislative push to return to manual transmission of election results.
He characterized this move as an “evil plan” designed to dismantle the progress made in Nigeria’s electoral transparency.
By reverting to manual systems, he argues, the National Assembly is actively working to undermine the democratic will of the people, further proving his point that the current leadership is detached from the aspirations of the Nigerian populace.

Labeling the current legislative body “political bandits,” Adeyanju argues that the Senate under Godswill Akpabio has become an obstacle to progress rather than a partner in it.

From the suppression of peaceful protests at the National Assembly gates to the controversial moves regarding manual election result transmission, Adeyanju says he has lost all faith in the current leadership’s moral compass.
He contends that asking this administration to act in the interest of the people is a futile exercise because the leadership simply lacks the character to prioritize the nation over personal political gain.
