Bento Africa CEO Ebun Okubanjo Resigns Amidst Financial Mismanagement Allegations

Okubanjo, CEO of Nigerian payroll and HR management platform Bento Africa, has stepped down amid allegations of failing to remit taxes and pensions on behalf of its clients.

Okubanjo announced his resignation in an email to Bento’s board of directors, relinquishing his equity and debt holdings in the company.

The resignation comes at a tumultuous time for Bento Africa, with allegations of financial mismanagement, particularly regarding the withholding of employee taxes and pension contributions. OkubanjoEbun  attributed his decision to the challenges of scaling HR and payroll systems in Africa.

Okubanjo’s resignation follows a controversy-marred leadership journey, including a brief ousting and subsequent return as CEO in 2022. His departure may pave the way for a fresh start for both Okubanjo and Bento Africa.

In his resignation email, Okubanjo hinted at launching a new company, Ada AI, an AI-powered sales assistant. The future of Bento Africa remains uncertain, with some investors expressing skepticism about the company’s prospects.
