Nigeria’s digital innovation ecosystem has scored a significant milestone, with locally developed software applications generating over $1 million in total sales in 2025, the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has revealed.
According to Dr. Obiageli Amadiobi, Director-General of NOTAP, the achievement reflects the growing strength and global competitiveness of Nigerian tech solutions, with locally built apps now serving markets across Africa and beyond.
The revenue was driven by more than 50 Nigerian-developed applications, spanning sectors such as fintech, health tech, education, logistics, and e-commerce.
Individual developers earned between $5,000 and $80,000 from their products.
Around 60 % of total sales came from other African countries, showing strong regional demand.

NOTAP says capacity building, stronger intellectual property protection, and better market access helped drive this milestone.
Dr. Amadiobi also emphasized the importance of intellectual property rights, warning that without proper protection, innovations risk being copied or exploited.

Looking ahead:
NOTAP plans to double local application sales by 2027, with a focus on high-growth areas such as fintech, renewable energy tools, and climate-adaptation technologies.
