Former PFN Leader Slams South-East APC Over Tinubu Re-Election Endorsement

PORT HARCOURT – Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South-East have come under intense criticism for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election next year.

The endorsement took place on Saturday in Enugu State, where APC representatives from three South-East states gathered and not only pledged support for Tinubu but also subtly criticized the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 elections.

Reacting to the move, Apostle Eugene Eqwuatu Ogu, former Rivers State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), described the endorsement as “shameful and disgraceful.

”Ogu expressed dismay that, while the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, remains imprisoned in the North, these APC leaders are openly backing the very man responsible for his detention, despite him committing no known crime.

The cleric said, “these same elders went to President Tinubu and pleaded with him to release Kanu from prison, the President rejected their plea.

“It therefore implies that they have been hoodwinking the people of the south-east on their promise that Kanu will be release.

This is a grand deception”.The former PFN/CAN leader warned that unless the south-east is truly included in the current administration, President Tinubu will lack support in the region in the next election, citing poor roads, lack of electricity, and minimal federal presence. In 2027, everyone will know the south-east’s position.

Any attempt to undermine a rightful Igbo son or daughter, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, will have consequences.

I don’t believe the people of the south-east are behind this endorsement.“APC is rapidly losing popularity in the south-east and across Nigeria. The party will soon be deserted.

“Those joining APC now are merely protecting their political future. I can assure you, before the next election, APC will almost be empty,” be added.

The cleric also condemned the party’s handling of Igbo inclusion, stating, “APC shows no indication that Igbos have a future in this government.

If they did, why not prove it by releasing Nnamdi Kanu from prison?”He further urged the federal government to carry out electoral reforms and ensure INEC can conduct the 2027 elections without interference. Don’t Miss This:https://crestafrica.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=11330&action=edit

He said, “I dare them to carry out these reforms. Nigerians want to see a truly independent INEC. When that happens, we will see how APC fares given the current economic hardships and insecurity in the country.”
